Carpestology provides a mattress cleaning service throughout Brisbane, using hot water extraction techniques which remove any dust mites, sweat, dead skin and stains that occur inside the mattress rather than just the top layer. We provide the same high-quality equipment and chemical solutions used for carpet and furniture cleaning when cleaning your mattress. If you have a stained mattress, a strange-smelling mattress, a mattress that has never been cleaned, or one that has had pets or children on it, contact us today to receive a fixed quote.
Every booking covers the same core work: a pre-inspection, HEPA vacuuming to pull out dust mites and dead skin cells, targeted pre-treatment on stains and high-use zones, a hot water extraction steam clean across the whole mattress, and a sanitising deodoriser to neutralise odours.
You get the price upfront. No call-out fee on top, no hidden fees for “extras” we should’ve quoted in the first place. If you’re not happy with the result, we come back and re-clean it, same day where possible, at no charge.
Bookings include both sides of the mattress, where it’s reversible. Pillow-tops, memory foam toppers, zip-on covers and removable bolsters are handled as part of the clean.
Pricing scales with size, from single through to king. Reversible mattresses are cleaned on both sides as part of the standard price. Pillow-tops, memory foam toppers and zip-on covers are included.
There are a few things that will cause the quote to go higher. A heavy urine stain will require a stain treatment, which takes longer and needs to be extracted again. The same is true for a deep blood stain, any mould on the underside of the mattress, or a mattress that hasn’t been cleaned in years.
The cleaning of a mattress alone has a minimum charge, and so people either opt for two mattresses or include their mattress in a carpet or furniture cleaning session. We will let you know how you can book it in the most cost-effective way based on your requirements. There is no call out charge and no extra charges for anything.
Not every bed requires our attention. If your mattress is less than three years old, regularly gets clean sheets each week, and does not have any apparent stains or smells, all you need to do is use a HEPA-enabled vacuum cleaner (or a Kirby vacuum) to keep dust mites at manageable levels.
Cover it with baking soda and let it rest for some time before removing it with a vacuum cleaner. This will take care of any light smell and excess moisture. In the case of a fresh spillage, blot it with cold water.
Book a professional mattress clean when:
DIY can restore a fresh mattress. However, DIY cannot extract years of accumulated sweat, skin cells, dust mite waste, or oils that have become lodged into the mattress material. This is where extraction equipment comes in.
We check your mattress for any stains, smells, damage, and mould. We inform you truthfully about what stains may be removable, partly removable, and those that are difficult to clean. Some old urine stains that have gone all the way to the springs may not be fully eliminated.
A high suction vacuum that has been fitted with a brand new HEPA filter bag is used to clean the whole mattress, including the edges and bottom of it, if possible. Dust mites, dandruff, hair, or any other debris will be removed from the mattress prior to any liquid coming into contact with the fabric.
The visible spots have their own prespraying and dwelling time. Depending upon whether the spot is caused by urine, blood, sweat, or body oils, we use different cleaning chemicals since the process involved in breaking them down differs in each case. For example, stains on the sleeping area formed from perspiration need a special enzyme-based treatment to break down the proteins.
Hot Water Extraction (HWE) is a form of steam cleaning where heated water containing detergent is forced into the mattress under pressure and extracted through vacuuming. This is when the actual cleaning takes place. The amount of moisture used in this process is regulated to ensure that the mattress is not completely drenched.
After extraction, we apply a sanitising mist that kills germs, bacteria, surface fungi, and the dust mites the vacuum missed. A light deodorise neutralises odours rather than perfuming over them. Both products are eco-friendly and safe around kids, pets, allergy sufferers and anyone with sensitive skin.
We will show you the finished work, point out anything that hasn't turned out as expected, and tell you how to take care of your mattress during the coming hours (leave it off your bed frame or at an angle, use a fan if possible, crack some windows, and don't cover it with sheets until it is completely dry). If you still aren't happy, we will schedule a re-cleaning for you right then and there.
Urine is the hardest stain we deal with because it soaks down through the cover into the foam or springs and crystallises. Fresh accidents (within 24 hours) usually clean up well. Old urine often leaves a yellow shadow and can rewick to the surface even after extraction, where moisture pulls the residue back up. We use an enzyme pre-treatment to break down the uric acid before extracting, which gives the best chance of full removal.
Years of buildup result in sweat and body oil stains, which can be extracted very easily. Blood stains should be treated using cold water since hot water will set the stains. Fresh blood stains that are not yet a week old are removed easily, while set blood stains older than a few weeks may leave a slight shadow.
Usually, a smell indicates that there is water damage on the mattress due to sweating in the humid months, a leak, storing the bed in a wet room, or problems with the air conditioning unit’s condensation. We apply an antibacterial product to the surface during our cleaning process. If the mould has gone deep into the foam, we will tell you if cleaning will only partly solve the problem.
Mattresses that have been steamed cleaned in dry conditions will be touch dry after just a few hours (typically within 3 or 4 hours). Summer months in Brisbane average 60% to 75% humidity, but on the worst days, they top 80%. The same process in February might require 6 to 8 hours.
How we control moisture to prevent mould after cleaning
There are two aspects of control here – the first one is the use of an incredibly powerful vacuum system that is mounted on a truck and removes more water than a portable vacuum system can remove. In addition to that, we have a special air mover if humidity levels are higher than expected or the air flow is lower than required. Finally, we use the smallest quantity of liquid possible that is sufficient to perform the task.
When we’re done, if possible, put the mattress against the wall, open the bedroom windows, and switch on the ceiling fan or aircon for at least a couple of hours. Make sure your sheets are totally dry before remaking the bed.
May to September is the best time frame since the humidity levels are lower, thus minimising the risk of mould. The least favourable months for drying are February and March due to storm season humidity, so waiting for April will give you a better outcome. However, we offer cleaning all year round, and we adapt our process depending on the level of humidity.
Memory foam soaks up moisture more than innerspring, so we use less solution and longer extraction passes. Done properly, memory foam cleans up well, and the foam returns to shape once dry.
The most common type we clean. Pillow-tops need extra attention because the quilted layer traps skin flakes and sweat. Reversible mattresses get both sides done.
Natural latex is moisture-sensitive, so we use a minimal-moisture method rather than full extraction. Hybrid mattresses with a foam comfort layer over springs are cleaned with adjusted moisture levels depending on the construction.
We don’t clean mattresses with structural damage (split covers, broken springs poking through, collapsed foam, or torn quilting) because cleaning won’t bring them back. We won’t clean mattresses with visible mould growth deep in the foam, mattresses that have been in a flood, mattresses with bed bug activity, or mattresses that have been chemically saturated by a previous cleaner. If we find any of these on arrival, we’ll tell you straight and won’t charge for the visit.
For most households, every 12 to 18 months. Sooner if you have pets sleeping on the bed, allergy sufferers in the house, kids prone to accidents, or someone who sweats heavily at night. Combined with weekly sheet washing and a monthly vacuum, this keeps the sleep environment clean without overdoing it.
If the mattress is in a guest room and barely used, every two to three years is fine.
“Matt did a fantastic job restoring my two stained, cream coloured, Koala couch/beds, and ottoman, to brand new condition. He paid so much attention to detail, was efficient, knowledgable, and nothing was too much effort. His price was extremely reasonable considering the quality work. I thoroughly recommend Matt for carpet, rug, couch and mattress cleaning.”
“I cannot express enough how amazing my carpets/couch/rug came up after Matt cleaned them. I was thinking I had to buy a new rug and couch. All stains came out and it looks as good as the day I bought it. I’ve had two previous cleaners in the past that could not get the stains out. Absolute 10 out of 10 score. So friendly and reliable. I will definitely be recommending to all my friends.”
“Matt did an amazing job! He was able to book me last minute which was great. Super kind, and with great predisposition – arrived on time, worked super fast and everything looks fab! He did a bedroom carpet, a large rug, our mattress and couch. Thank you Matt! Super Recommended”
